College basketball rankings: Week 17 AP Poll released; Florida Gators new top dog

After one of the more eventful weeks in college basketball this season, we knew coming into Monday that there would be a new number one in the college basketball rankings, we just didn’t know who. Would the Florida Gators or the undefeated Wichita State Shockers get the top billing after the former number one team, the Syracuse Orange, lost two consecutive games.

Well, that was answered Monday afternoon, and that answer is that head coach Billy Donovan and the Gators are back at the top.

After taking care of their own business this past weekend, coupled with the Syracuse losses, Florida now is recognized–in the rankings at least–as the top team in the land, with the Shockers claiming number two.
