The Milwaukee Brewers opened their spring training camp last week with pitchers and catchers reporting just a few days earlier.
What they found when they arrived was a bit of an oddity. A stray dog wondering all over their west-Phoenix field.
The Brewers did what any self-respecting person would do and attempted to find the dog’s owner. But unfortunately, they weren’t able to locate such and noticing there appeared to be some issues with the puppy (outside of just being dirty), they took him to a local veterinarian.
After some tests the vet noticed a tail injury and gray markings around his leg – evidence that he had been hit by a car.
With no place to go, the Brewers decided to make him their own and call him ‘Hank’ – named after iconic slugger Hank Aaron.
Now ‘Hank’ is enjoying the good life, playing in the massive Brewers outfield as players, coaches and trainers can’t seem to get enough of the loveable pooch.
There’s no word on what will happen to Hank when the Brewers end their Arizona-run and return to Milwaukee, though assuming no owner is found I have to think somebody will adopt him and bring him with.
Feel good story of spring training.
