The Minnesota Timberwolves star had laid out some snarly comments in recent weeks when pressed with the idea and recently told GQ Magazine that the Timberwolves are a better team and have a better foundation than his hometown Los Angeles Lakers.
“People think it’s so far-fetched that I would stay in Minnesota. And I’m not [dumping] on the Lakers, but we have the better team, the better foundation. I’m having fun.”
In fairness to Love – he’s correct – at least right now. The Lakers are among the worst teams in the league.
That said, Los Angeles is one of the most iconic franchises in the league and always figures out a way to rebound quickly when they bottom out, so while that may hold true right now, it’s tough to say it will in the future.
Love is signed through next season with a player option for the 2015-16 year. If he doesn’t exercise the clause, he’ll become a free agent after next season.
