The Houston Texans are expected to release quarterback Matt Schaub in the coming days and the New York Jets are said to have interest.

It’s possible there could be mutual interest on Schaub’s part, that is assuming he’s named the starter as the veteran does not want to backup Geno Smith, this according to the New York Daily News.

"Texans signal-caller Matt Schaub, who is expected to be released, would be a quality option, but sources told The News that he isn’t interested in being Smith’s backup."

It’s an understandable sentiment from Schaub given his age and desire to win as a starting quarterback. But his performance recently has been awful and there aren’t many teams who are going to give him an opportunity to start. Of course, as terrible as Schaub has been – he wasn’t nearly as bad as Geno Smith and has a history of performing well.

But signing Schaub and giving in to his starting demands all but alienates Smith and would likely dissolve that marriage rather quickly.
