On Monday morning, the defensive linemen have their turn in the spotlight at the NFL Scouting Combine, and while Jadeveon Clowney did turn some heads with his ridiculous 4.47 time, Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald gave out his fair share of shock when he came up shortly after.
Donald, who weighed in at 290 pounds this week, dashed his way 40 yards in an amazing 4.65 seconds, which can be seen as just as amazing as what Clowney did.
Coming out of college last season, we all knew that Donald was an athletic big man, but that 4.65 time puts that fact into a much greater perspective. Already being seen as a new lock for the first round, Donald may have made his stock jump even further with that time, especially given that his initial 10-yard burst was just as explosive, something that’s crucial for a DT getting off the ball up front.
Coming into the Combine, Donald is in some pretty stiff competition with Florida State’s Timmy Jernigan for the billing as the top defensive tackle coming out, and it’s the little things like this that will separate him.
