“I’m ready to go in three or four days, whatever it is. Feels good as its felt in three months,”
Couture injured his right hand on December 19. He played through it for three weeks before having surgery on January 8. He thought he had healed enough to be named to Team Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. However, Canada did not name him to the team, giving him more time to heal.
Couture was having quite the season before finally having surgery. In 43 games with the Sharks this season, he scored 14 goals and added 21 assists for a total of 35 points.
San Jose has quite the hold on second place in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division, being 12 points above the third place Los Angeles Kings. A lot of that was because of their hot start in October, going 10-1-2. Couture, being the new face of the Sharks, obviously was big part of that.
Couture being out hasn’t really hurt the Sharks with players like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau still in the lineup, but the Sharks will nevertheless be excited to have their superstar back in their lineup. Couture will look to help push the Sharks closer to the Anaheim Ducks, who they are just seven points behind.
The Sharks might make a move or two at the Trade Deadline, but they might not need to. With the return of Couture, it’s like they are acquiring someone at the deadline without giving anything up.
