Almost two months removed from core surgery, Justin Verlander told media members after a batting practice session on Monday that he was feeling ‘pretty normal.’

The Detroit Free Press reported that Verlander threw 48 pitches  in his first BP session with no apparent problems. He is slated to throw one more session before he gets put into Spring Training games. Verlander told the media that the only issue he had was slipping while throwing a curveball. He said he has some rust, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary.

New Tigers’ manager Brad Ausmus has not named his Opening Day starter, but did mention that Verlander’s streak of six consecutive Opening Day starts might influence his decision.
