Brooklyn Nets center Jason Collins became the first openly gay athlete to play in a major American sport earlier this week when he checked in for the Nets against the Los Angeles Lakers. Collins entered the game shortly after signing a ten-day contract with the Nets and his story had a big impact around the world.
One of the news outlets that picked up the story was CNN, but they had a glaring mistake on their front page.
While speaking about Collins in the headline, CNN posted a photo of former Missouri Tigers defensive end Michael Sam who came out as an openly gay football player just the week before.

It is an unfortunate mistake for CNN to make and one that they will likely regret, but the good news is that they are making waves for using the wrong photo and not making a tasteless joke like one pro golfer earlier in the day.
