Vicky Picca, the N.B.A.’s senior vice president for licensing and business affairs, used the word “unprecedented” Monday to describe the inquiries from people interested in buying something with Collins’ name on it. On Tuesday, they can start making purchases, including T-shirts with Collins’ name that will be available only online.
Collins’ jersey holds a special place – outside of it being just Collins uniform as his #98 is in honor of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at Wyoming University who was murdered in 1998.
The merchandise is not expected to be available at the Nets’ Barclays Arena as the team does not normally order merchandise for players they’ve signed to ten-day contracts. Though, if Collins is signed for the remainder of the season, that could change.
If you’re hoping to get yourself any Collins memorabilia, you’ll need to do so on NBA.com who opened up sales Monday morning.
