The Dallas Mavericks went to Madison Square Garden and played a tough game against the New York Knicks. With things tied in the final seconds, the Mavericks got their star Dirk Nowitzki the ball and Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony was covering him.

He got the shot up and it went in, not cleanly but with the help of a few bounces.

“The good thing is I’m 7 feet and I was able to see the rim a little,” Nowitzki said, via the Dallas Morning News. “It hit the board, every part of the rim, [NBA logo] Jerry West and came back. It was definitely an ugly, ugly shot, but I’m glad it went in.”

Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle was less critical of the shot.

“He’s done that so many times,” Carlisle said. “What an incredible shot. It was only fitting. The two best players out there man on man. And he hit as difficult a shot as you’re going to hit. Carmelo was all over him. Just to get the ball up in the air was a feat. The shot going in was just great.”
