If you liked Justin Rose as a fantasy option heading into this week’s Honda Classic, you were not alone as he was on many teams rosters based on his past success at this venue and his good form overall. I had him on my roster as I explained in my picks which came out this morning.
Unfortunately for those of us who were hoping he’d continue his success at PGA National, Rose withdrew earlier today citing a continuing nagging shoulder injury. He played last week in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Tuscon, but he decided to forego this week’s tournament and focus on getting ready for next week’s event. He is still expected to play at the WGC-Cadillac Championship on the Blue Monster next week, but for this week you’ll need a different fantasy option.
Here’s three quick options to consider all on Yahoo! Sports B-List:
Zach Johnson: Johnson has been in the top ten in ten of his last 13 stroke play events. He had three top ten’s in this calendar year including a win at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and a third place finish in the Humana following a sizzling 62 on Sunday. He hasn’t played the Honda since 2009.
Michael Thompson: Thompson won the event last year and has three top 20′s in his four events this calendar year. He’s coming off two consecutive t19′s in Phoenix and Pebble Beach. While repeating is always tough to do, he is definitely a good pick to do well enough to make him a fantasy cosideration.
Matt Jones: Jones is five-for-five in made cuts this fantasy season and finished t18 at PGA National last year in the Honda Classic. Jones is a sleeper pick that could pay off if the Aussie continues putting up solid, steady rounds.
