The big man continues to make noise around the NBA.
After inking a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets and making his debut Sunday, the NBA released Jason Collins’ number 98 jersey for the public to buy.
According to ESPN.com, Collins’ jersey was the top-selling NBA jersey for Tuesday.
Collins has decided to wear number 98 to tribute Mathew Shepard.
Shepard was brutally murdered in a gay hate crime 16 years ago.
If you look at his pictures of his debut you’ll notice something different.
Due to his quick signing and short turnaround for the game, Collins wore a number 46 jersey because 98 wasn’t available.
During the offseason, Collins came out to the public and announced that he was gay.
When he checked in during the second quarter, Collins made history as being the first ever openly gay player to play in the game.
Against the Lakers, Collins played 11 minutes, finishing with 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 5 fouls.
Collins, 35, has averaged 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds for his career.
Collins number 98 will debut Wednesday night against the Portland Trailblazers.
