Major League Baseball has implemented a new replay system for the 2014 season. It expands the scope of plays that can be reviewed and implements a challenge system where managers can initiate the review process.
In an interview about the new system, Torre tried to explain some of the finer points as best as he could. Two key items include:
- Managers have their one challenge for the game until they use it, and that apparently goes beyond the 6th inning
- Umpires will have access to all of those beautiful high-def angles we see on television (eight to 12, according to Torre), those that inspired much of the dialogue about the need for replay in this day and age of technology in the first place
