During the 2014 Winter Olympics, one of the standouts in the men’s hockey tournament was 21-year-old Latvian netminder Kristers Gudlevskis. Thanks to his strong performance in the quarterfinals against Canada, Latvia was almost able to pull off the huge upset and continue their Cinderella story.
Ultimately, Canada came out on top and went on to win the gold medal, but Gudlevskis set himself up nicely for the next step of his career.
Gudlevskis will likely be on the Tampa Bay Lightning roster when the NHL season resumes, with the health of backup goalie Anders Lindback still being an issue.
Once the NHL season restarts, the Lightning will be playing four games in six days, so the Lightning may need to rely on Gudlevski and hope that he can continue the momentum he gained in Sochi.
