You’ve got to hand it to Ervin Santana.

The free agent pitcher hasn’t buckled in regards to his contractual demands – or at least – hasn’t buckled enough.

The veteran was reportedly seeking a $100 million dollar contract when free agency broke a few months back and while he did eventually come down in his asking price, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports he’s still looking to secure a deal which will pay him over $12.5 million dollars per season.

Top remaining free agent starter Ervin Santana’s asking price hasn’t dropped with spring training starting; it remains about four years and $50-million, according to executives with interested teams.

Given some of the deals we’ve seen this offseason, that’s not exactly outlandish but it’s not cheap either.

Santana’s history is a bit spotty – at times looking very solid but at other times looking quite hittable. Add in the draft compensation a team would need to forfeit by signing Santana and you can see why he’s still on the market.

It’s been rumored that Santana may wait until after the June draft to sign as his draft pick compensation will expire (and thus expand his potential suitors).
