The Atlanta Falcons are expected to address their needs on the defensive side of the ball early in the 2014 NFL Draft, but they will need to have a few options in case their dream scenario of landing Jadeveon Clowney does not play out.
If Atlanta misses out on Clowney, UCLA’s Anthony Barr and Khalil Mack of Buffalo will be the next best options, and it appears that the Falcons already have their preference.
According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of theAtlanta Journal-Constitution, the “word on the streets” in Indianapolis at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine is that the Falcons prefer Mack over Barr.
Considering Mack had the better showing of the two in Indy and his athleticism will allow him to get after the passer more consistently in the NFL, it is not a surprise to hear the Falcons are leaning in that direction.
Of course, it is only February, so plenty can change before May’s draft.
