The Minnesota Vikings have already held some preliminary contractual discussions with quarterback Matt Cassel about a potential return.

If that doesn’t happen, the Houston Texans are a likely landing spot for the veteran signal caller – this according to CBS’ Jason La Canfora.

"If Matt Cassel does not return to Minnesota, Houston is seen as a likely landing spot for him."

Minnesota is (for some odd reason) said to be interested in having Cassel return, so it’s by no stretch a certainty that the veteran will make his way to Houston.

The Texans meanwhile, who own the first selection in the 2014 NFL Draft are said to be heavily interested in drafting a quarterback with the pick and it’s doubtful they’d make such a selection to have the player sit on the bench.

That would likely force Cassel to the bench unless the Texans were thinking of going with a non-quarterback with the first overall selection.

Houston will need a quarterback – be it a starter or backup – though I can’t imagine Cassel would be overly thrilled being second fiddle.
