Oh the drama. One second you hear that it’s a sure thing that the Buffalo Sabres are going to trade Ryan Miller. The next second, they’re trying to re-sign him. That is apparently where we stand now, according to Eklund of HockeyBuzz.com.
Eklund says that Miller wants to go to a team that has a legitimate shot at winning the Stanley Cup. If that can’t happen, he would rather stay in Buffalo. The Sabres want a top goalie in return. Eklund notes that the best goalie they would get in return for Miller would be Braden Holtby if they sent him to the Washington Capitals.
So if Miller does indeed stay in Buffalo, what happens to the goalie market? There have been several teams that may have inquired about him. Eklund notes the Capitals and St. Louis Blues. Both those teams may now be turning their attention to the New Jersey Devils. Of course, if the Blues were to acquire Brodeur, then Jaroslav Halak‘s tenure in St. Louis would more than likely to be over.
Eklund sees a scenario where the Blues end up with Brodeur and the Capitals end up with Halak. All this because of a decision by the Sabres and Ryan Miller.
On top of all this, Eklund notes that the Minnesota Wild and even the Colorado Avalanche have inquired about Brodeur.
With the NHL Trade Deadline a week away, it will be interesting to see how things end up in regards to the goalie situation. Will there be lots of movement or will there be none?
