Victor Oladipo fails hard on slam dunk (GIF)

The Orlando Magic aren’t going anywhere in a hurry this season and that has a lot to do with how badly they’ve been playing all season long. They’ve just given into the losing ways and are now gunning for the worst record in basketball and the best odds at the No. 1 overall pick.

All of Orlando’s losing can be contributed to them trying to get a young team to start playing well — emphasis on the young when looking at this whiffed slam dunk attempt by Victor Oladpio.

Oladipo isn’t a big guy, but he’s not incapable of dunking. He just had bad form against a good defense on this one, as this is a poor representation of one of the NBA’s finer rookies this season.

Um, that is definitely NOT Oladipo. That’s Vucevic with the failed putback dunk. Oladipo just failed to lay it in. Did you look at the gif?!

What is happening with this story? Two paragraphs are wasted telling us that Orlando isn’t very good this year (mega-scoop) and then slam-shaming Oladipo. This is all to build up to a GIF in which Oladipo doesn’t even attempt a dunk, but rather misses a driving layup and Nik Vucavic misses a follow-up. I had to check my eyes and re-watch this a few times to make sure I wasn’t missing something, but the play-by-play on SI even reads as:

7:10 Victor Oladipo misses a layup from 2 feet out. 9-14

7:09 Nikola Vucevic with an offensive rebound. 9-14

7:09 Nikola Vucevic misses a layup from 1 foot out. 9-14

I’ve become accustomed to blogger-turned-journalists not bothering to spell-check their stories (which is sad to begin with), but click-baiting with something that didn’t even happen and even posting the evidence of the egregious error is grounds for dismissal (from my regular, bored, internet vortex sports reading lineup). What’s next? Fire the photographers and replace them with crayon drawings from bloggers’ kids? Back to the internet café with this stuff. Monkeys throw poo with more care and accuracy.

I hope that this “story” is either replaced or removed in a timely manner so that my spouting off like a jerk doesn’t have to stay up here for all eternity.

Seriously, I’m just looking out for all of us. You’re better than this. Please try harder.
