The St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks are set to resume their regular NHL season now that the 2014 Winter Games are over. Sochi was an important experience for players on both sides of this matchup, and a big storyline to watch will be how the Blues bounce back from all their recent travel.
The four St. Louis players that participated in the gold medal game got back from Russia on Sunday, and then almost immediately had to turn around and head to Vancouver. That’s a lot of time-zone flipping in only a few short days. How will the likes of Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester adjust to being back in the NHL instead of on Team Canada?
Likewise, how will Patrik Berglund and Alexander Steen respond to being on the losing end of that gold medal game? All told, the Blues were well represented in Russia, but the US, Russian and Swedish squads came out with disappointing performances. Overall, will that impact St. Louis?
Vancouver will also struggle to get a few letdown players going. Ryan Kessler laced up the skates for the United States, while Daniel Sedin played for Sweden and also lost in the gold medal contest. The Canucks will get Henrik Sedin back from injury though, and that should be a big boost for the club.
