Michigan Wolverines quarterback Devin Gardner isn’t afraid of a little competition.
When asked Tuesday about the other Michigan quarterbacks — Shane Morris, Russell Bellomy and Wilton Speight — vying for the starting job, Gardner said he welcomes the competition:
I’m a competitor, I’m going to compete and they’ll pick the best quarterback when it’s time. (But) I’m the quarterback of the team.
Competition, I’ve been in competition since I’ve been here, I feel like it’s something that makes everybody better. It makes you so much of a better player, it’s ridiculous.
It’s sometimes hard to compete with yourself and continue to push yourself when there’s nobody pushing you. Now, it’s a little different.
Gardner threw for 2,960 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. His season came to a disappointing end, however, when he hurt his foot against Ohio State and was forced to miss Michigan’s bowl game.
