There were a lot of indications suggesting that Danny Granger would be interested in joining the Miami Heat once his buyout with the Philadelphia 76ers was complete.
And on the surface, it made sense. The Heat are coming off two consecutive NBA Championships and Granger seemed like a relatively solid fit. Add in that he’d be able to likely take on his former team, the Indiana Pacers, in a playoff matchup with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line – seemed like a perfect scenario.
But it seems as if the Heat prefer to bring in Caron Butler, which will leave Granger likely looking at Western Conference contenders like the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.
Both are said to have interest in the veteran forward, but Bill Ingram of Basketball Insiders believes the Spurs are a much better fit for Granger.
As much as I love Danny, his lack of defense would make Houston’s big problem even worse. I like Danny in San Antonio, where a great coach can cover up his defensive liabilities. We’re talking about the guy who successfully used Matt Bonner to guard Dwight Howard.
