NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers 'in running' to sign Carmelo Anthony?

It seems like everybody has an opinion on what Carmelo Anthony will due regarding his pending free agent status at season end.

Many believe he’ll stay with the New York Knicks. Others suggest he’ll opt for greener pastures.

One such team said to be in the running to sign the former Orangeman are the Los Angeles Lakers, this according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports.

New York is said to be Anthony’s top priority, with the Los Angeles Lakers supposedly in the running. Although, according to one GM, it’s hard to know if the Lakers are a real possibility or just wishful thinking on fan message boards.

I’m not sure what the most important piece of that tidbit is. The fact that the Knicks are Melo’s top priority, that the Lakers are said to be in the running for the former Syracuse star or that a general manager of an NBA team can’t differentiate between what’s going on with league offices and internet message boards.

Shame David Kahn is out of the league – he’d be the first general manager to blame.

Obviously, being part of the Lakers and the league’s 2nd largest market is a priority.

The Lakers will obviously listen if Anthony wants to come to LA. They might even throw a cursory pitch his direction for good politics.

Unless Anthony WANTS to come to LA and on LA’s terms, it’s a non-starter. If the Prince becons, the team will listen.

The team and fans have moved past the Carmelo Anthony possibility. – Adding a self-centered scorer without defensive capabilities doesn’t seem to work for a team looking to win a championship.
