Johnny Manziel was once considered a reach in the middle of the first-round by some draft experts but either they’ve caught the Johnny Football bug or teams interested in have changed their minds as Manziel is now in the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick in most mock drafts.
His combine performance is only making him get talked about more and more, but not everyone has Johnny Football fever, as ESPN’s Ron Jaworski isn’t a fan of Manziel. Speaking on Philadelphia radio, Jaws noted that he thinks Manziel is a fourth-round pick at best and said he wouldn’t waste a draft pick on him in the first three-rounds.
“I’m a big believer in Nick Foles, but who knows? Manziel may fall. I’m not crazy about him, to be honest with you. I’ve only looked at five games. I wouldn’t take him in the first three rounds. That’s my opinion. It’s incomplete right now. But he has not done a whole lot to me.”
It’s safe to say that teams are a lot hight on Manziel than Jaws is, but let’s not discount outspoken opinions of ESPN analysts. Remember that Merril Hodge was roasted for going against consensus popularity and saying both Matt Leinart and Vince Young would be first-round busts — and that turned out pretty accurate.
