Phoenix Coyotes GM Dave Maloney doesn’t see big trade coming

USA Today Sports

The Phoenix Coyotes are in the hunt for a playoff position, but General Manager Dave Maloney doesn’t expect the team to make any big moves. There’s been some speculation that the squad could trade Radim Vrbata if a contract extension can’t be reached, but a move doesn’t seem imminent for the Desert Dogs.

Maloney spoke to Sarah McLellan of AZCentral.com and had this to say about the likelihood of the team making a deal:

There’s nothing imminent. I don’t feel like I’m hot on the track of a big deal. I think I’m just like everybody else. I’m looking and searching and kicking a lot of tires and seeing if I can find something that can help us.

Phoenix head coach Dave Tippit seems to share the mentality that this will be his roster moving forward:

We’re really going with the mindset this is our group and we’re going forward with this group right here. We’ll do everything we can to get these guys prepared and try to play the right way and see if we can find ways to win.

The Coyotes are currently in fourth place in the Pacific Division, but still have to fight off the Vancouver Canucks for that position. They’re only four points behind the Los Angeles Kings for a Divisional seed, and are tied with the Dallas Stars for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
