East Carolina Pirates head coach Ruffin McNeill confirmed Thursday that wide receiver Danny Webster is officially off the football team.
Webster was charged with a DWI earlier this month.
Here’s what McNeill had to say about the situation:
Because of the history involved with Danny, we really do not have any other option than to dismiss him from the team. Our top priority is to remain consistent with values that define the foundation of our program and with that comes a level of accountability.
February’s DWI wasn’t the first time Webster has found himself in trouble while at ECU. Back in October of 2013, he and fellow wide receiver Quataye Smyre were suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules. Webster was also suspended for the opening game of the 2012 season.
Webster’s best season for the Pirates came in 2011, when he caught 43 passes for 418 yards and a touchdown. Last year he caught 18 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, missing the last eight games of the season due to his suspension.
