Last week the UFC announced that they would be returning to Cincinnati for UFC Fight Night 40 in May. While the UFC has yet to release a main event for the card, they have announced a few intruging matchups including the Lightweight battle that was finalized this morning.
TUF Live alumnus, Daron Cruickshank, is set to face off against former Featherweight contender, Erik Koch, in an exciting bout between two of the division’s most savvy strikers. Both men are coming off big wins, and are looking to make a statement to the Lightweight division.
Koch is literally fresh off his UFC 170 TKO victory over Rafaello Oliveira. The win ended Koch’s two fight losing streak, and was a successful debut at Lightweight. Koch said that the weight cuts to 145 pounds were deteriorating him during the fight, so he decided to move up in weight and make a run for the title. With a win over Cruickshank, Koch will be right in the mix in the 155 pound division.
Cruickshank is coming off his best performance of his career in which he TKO’ed fellow TUF Live alumnus, Mike Rio at UFC on FOX 10. Cruickshank is 4-2 in his UFC career, and is looking to put on a winning streak inside the Lightweight division. Cruickshank is easily one of the savviest strikers in all of MMA with his incredible kicking techniques.
Here is the entire UFC Fight Night 40 card thus far:
