Cam Ward and the Carolina Hurricanes didn’t get the post-Olympic start they were hoping for against the Buffalo Sabres. They’ll be back at it again tonight, and will be facing off against the Dallas Stars.
Ward didn’t do a whole lot to quiet the trade rumors that have been linked to him over the last few months. He’s struggled to remain healthy, and when he has been out on the ice he’s been pretty bad. Anton Khudobin is taking his chance to be the No. 1 guy in Carolina and running away with it, and it’s likely that Ward will be back on the bench to watch his team take on Dallas.
The Stars should be relatively fresh after only sending three players to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Jamie Benn was one of Canada’s top offensive threats as the tourney moved on, and should hit the ice flying once he is reunited with Tyler Seguin—who has had all kinds of time to rest after failing to make the Canadian roster.
Despite Ward’s struggles, Carolina is still in the mix for a playoff spot and will be looking to fight off a Dallas team that will be hungry to hang onto their current Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
