For the last few seasons whenever the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames have played, one team has been good while the other has been bad. That might be an over-broad statement, but the Flames haven’t been a playoff-caliber team for quite some time while the Kings have typically been one of the better squads in the Western Conference.
The storyline is a bit different for this meeting, however.
While Calgary is still struggling and is all but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with 13 points standing between them and the final Wild Card spot, the Kings have also been pretty awful lately. The scoring well has totally run dry and they’ve gone 2-8-0 in their last 10 contests because of it.
A few of L.A.’s top players seemingly found their scoring touch while taking part in the 2014 Winter Olympics though. Drew Doughty was a monster for the Canadian squad, while Dustin Brown was part of the Meat Line for the US that had so much success. Until running head-on into the defensive clinic Team Canada put on, that is.
How will they perform against a Calgary squad that typically relishes the underdog role around this time of year? Tune in to find out.
