NFL Draft rumors: QB coaches prefer Derek Carr over Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel is going to be one of the most highly debated NFL draft prospects over the next few months and there will be people who think he will succeed and others who feel he will fail miserably.

Instead of speculating what NFL teams may feel, TFY Draft Insider’s Tony Pauline polled quarterback coaches at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine and it looks like the coaches are not as high on Manziel as some of the members of the media.

“At last count at least 17 quarterback coaches polled at the combine rank Derek Carr over Johnny Manziel,” Pauline wrote.

While the quarterback coaches may prefer Carr over Manziel, it is still most likely that Manziel will be drafted higher.

Many project that Manziel will be drafted in the top ten, while Carr is a borderline first-round pick at this point in the process. Of course, it is only February, so plenty can change before May’s draft.
