Vancouver Whitecaps win, Portland Timbers draw in Rose City Invite

Carl Robinson’s Vancouver Whitecaps continued their solid preseason campaign with a 2-0 shutout win over the San Jose Earthquakes. Kenny Miller opened up the scoring in the 26th minute of play thanks to a sequence initiated by Sam Adekugbe and Omar Salgado before Darren Mattocks slammed the door shut on an 87th minute penalty.
They will take on the Portland Timbers on Saturday evening to close out the Rose City Invitational. Portland drew 1-1 with Portmore United after going ahead 1-0 on a goal from Michael Nanchoff in the 75th minute. Francois Swaby converted a penalty in the 82nd minute for Portmore after Jorge Villafana fouled inside the penalty box.
Kickoff between Portland and Vancouver on Saturday at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
