Barry Switzer: 'I'd never recruit a white quarterback'

Former Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer has been expressing his opinions about Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel rather effortlessly the past few days. He made an interesting comment talking about it though saying he wouldn’t recruit a white quarterback.

“I’ve always said I’d never recruit a white quarterback. I said the only way I’d ever recruit a white quarterback to play for me was if mom and daddy happen to both be black and that’s the only way I would do it,” Switzer said, via The Sporting News.

“I’d have to have the Jamelle Holieways, J.C. Watts, Thomas Lotts. Those guys are going to be my quarterbacks: great runners, great ballcarriers. I wasn’t going to throw it too much, but to be able to pass and complete some, and those guys could. They could throw it and run.”

I haven’t gone through Oklahoma’s history but I know at one point he had Troy Aikman on his team at Oklahoma, and he isn’t black. Of course Aikman would transfer to UCLA to an offense more focused on passing but I’m assuming there was some recruiting of Aikman and he didn’t just walk on.
