Georgia Tech wide receiver Darren Waller suspended for two games

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson announced Friday that senior wide receiver Darren Waller will be suspended for the first two games of the 2014 season.

Johnson said Waller violated team rules, but he did not elaborate further.

Waller played in 12 games last season, totaling 17 receptions for 367 yards and three touchdowns (one of them being a 72-yard reception in Georgia Tech’s 25-17 loss to Ole Miss in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl). His 17 receptions were good enough for third on the team, and he was second amongst the receivers in yards.

The good news for Georgia Tech fans is that the first two opponents the Yellow Jackets will face next year are Wofford and Tulane, so having one of the leading receivers out shouldn’t hinder the offense too much. (Plus, it’s not like the team is reliant on throwing the ball, finishing 120th in the country last season in passing yards per game.)
