Jamie Benn was one of the best forwards for Canada in Sochi, and it seems that the gold medal has brought the beast out of the Dallas Stars forward. Yes, beast. Not best.
While a handful of other players that participated in Canada’s gold medal contest on Sunday struggled to play through jet lag, Benn scored one of the prettiest end-to-end goals that you’re likely to see all season long. Check out the video and be amazed.
A short-handed goal, no less. While on the power play, teams are obviously supposed to be focused on scoring a goal but this is a ridiculously soft effort from Carolina’s pair on the blue line. They didn’t even slow Benn down as he charged through the neutral zone.
By the time he hit the offensive blue line, the defense had already backed off too much and he was able to plow right through. The touch on the finish is wonderful, and it’s not very often you see a Bobby Orr-like rush in the NHL these days. Just a great goal by a special player.
Carolina has struggled mightily since the Olympic break ended, while Dallas is trying to hold onto a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
