Although Michael Jordan didn’t step foot onto an NBA court this year (at least not to play), that didn’t stop the iconic basketball star from raking in the dough.

According to Forbes.com, the Chicago Bulls legend made more money than any other athlete, retired or active, in the past year except for boxer Floyd Mayweather.

Jordan eclipsed the $90 million mark this past fiscal year – much of the money coming from Nike and Jordan Brand.

It was quite an increase for Jordan who previously held a high point of $80 million during his final season with the Chicago Bulls.

"Jordan made an estimated $90 million last year thanks to the rich partnership he enjoys with Nike. His 2013 earnings eclipsed those of all other retired or current athletes save boxer Floyd Mayweather. It marked Jordan’s biggest earnings year yet in a career paved with monster paydays, which peaked in Jordan’s last season with the Bulls (1997-98) at $80 million."

Maybe more shocking than Jordan making more money than anybody outside of Mayweather was the fact that Mayweather was actually at the top.

While the boxing great has no trouble financially, the average sports fan probably wouldn’t list him among the highest earners in sports off the top of their head.
