Mikhail Grabovski has reportedly re-aggravated a lingering ankle injury, and has returned to Washington for further examination. The extent of his injury is not currently known, but he won’t be available when the Washington Capitals go up against the Boston Bruins tomorrow afternoon.

RussianMachineNeverBreaks.com captured the play where Grabovski was injured and turned it into a GIF. Here’s a look at the play that apparently caused the problem.
Worth noting is that Grabovski missed Washington’s eight games leading up to the Olympic break, and this was his first game back in over a month. Now it seems that he has re-injured the same ankle that kept him on the shelf for the last handful of contests.
Obviously a tough break for a team that is fighting for a playoff spot. Could this have some sort of implications for the squad as the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 5? The extent of Grabovski’s injury could force the Capitals to swing some sort of deal for some help up the middle.
The forward has been one of the team’s top players all season long, so replacing him won’t be an easy task if that’s the route they decide to take.
