Nail Yakupov blocked a Justin Schultz slap shot, and all he has to show for it is a walking boot. The Edmonton Oilers defenseman possesses a rocket for a shot, and Yakupov was unfortunate to catch one on the right ankle against the Minnesota Wild last night.
He wasn’t able to return to the contest.

Then Yakupov was seen leaving Rexall Place in a walking cast.

The 2013-14 NHL season has been a tough one for the second-year youngster. He’s seemingly clashed with head coach Dallas Eakins at times, and spent portions of the early season as a healthy scratch. Yakupov has since started settling in though, notching three points in his last five games and 23 total.
His plus-minus still leaves a little something to be desired, but Edmonton has been terrible defensively for the entire season.
It’s unclear at this juncture whether or not Yakupov will be able to take part in the next Oilers contest, which is tomorrow against the Calgary Flames. We’ll keep you updated as details emerge about his condition, as The Edmonton Journal reported last night that his status would be known sometime today.
