Naismith award semifinalists announced

The Atlanta Tipoff Club recently announced the 10 national semifinalists for the 2014 Men’s Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T.

The voting academy for the award will select four finalists from this group between March 3-17.  Those finalists will be announced March 23.

Included in this year’s list are four freshman, four seniors, one sophomore and one junior.

The freshman semifinalists include guard Tyler Ennis of the Syracuse Orange, forward Julius Randle of the Kentucky Wildcats, forward Jabari Parker of the Duke Blue Devils and guard Andrew Wiggins  of the Kansas Jayhawks.

The seniors up for the award include guard Sean Kilpatrick of the Cincinnati Bearcats, forward Doug McDermott of the Creighton Blue Jays, guard Shabazz Napier of the Connecticut Huskies and guard Russ Smith of the Louisville Cardinals.

Rounding out the list is junior guard Nick Johnson of the Arizona Wildcats and sophomore guard Fred Van Vleet of the Wichita State Shockers.

The Atlanta Tipoff Club was founded during 1956-57 as a way for Atlantans to share in a common bond – the love and enjoyment of basketball.
