The Boston Celtics don’t have much to play for outside of pride this season (and lottery tickets).

They won’t be doing it with forward Gerald Wallace who suffered a torn meniscus earlier this week, this according to A. Sherrod Blakely.

Wallace is expected to undergo surgery in the relatively near future, but given the Celtics sub-par season and the time of year, Wallace returning this season seems to be in significant doubt.

The veteran small forward still has two years remaining on his contract with the Celtics, though has expressed a desire to be elsewhere (read: winning team) though has not (and reportedly will not) request to be moved.

Finding a team to take on Wallace’s contract won’t be easy, so for now it appears Wallace’s immediate future will remain in Boston.

With Avery Bradley also injured, Jerryd Bayless and Chris Johnson are in prime position to pick up the minutes vacated by Wallace’s absence.
