The Texas Rangers acquired Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson in the Rule 5 Draft. He is coming to their Surprise, Ariz. camp on Monday but he won’t be playing in their exhibition game against Cleveland later that afternoon.

From the Dallas Morning News:

“No way,” Washington said. “I’m not using him. Basically, we want to see if there is anything he can say that will help anybody with a baseball uniform. He’s got character, he’s a winner.”

Asked if Wilson’s appearance at camp is simply about him talking to people, Washington acknowledged it is.

“That’s what it is going to come down to,” Washington said. “He’s got purpose. And that’s our purpose for having him here.”

Wilson will surely find that disappointing and at one point was looking forward to potentially getting to play. For now though it looks like his role as motivational speaker is cemented, and the Seahawks might be thankful for that.
