As the 2014 NFL Draft rapidly approaches, it’s becoming crunch time for the Houston Texans to ultimately decide who they’d take with that first overall pick, and one of their options is Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman winner Johnny Manziel. And if it was up to one famous ex-head coach, the Texans would put their stock into Manziel, if they’re serious about a turnaround.

In a recent radio interview, Dungy went out of his way to sing the praises of the controversial, undersized signal caller. But, he also expressed that if they’re serious about that turnaround–or any team for that matter–they’ll give the reins to Johnny Football.

“He is productive, he’s a winner,” Dungy said. “He’s a guy that excites his teammates. He gets the most out of everybody around him. That’s what you’re looking for in a quarterback. But is he talented enough? Can you win with him? Is he going to make plays in the NFL? Absolutely. Should he be a top-five pick? We’ll see how that goes. If I’m committed to winning, I’d take him.”

It seems that as we get closer to the actual draft, more and more people are praising Manziel rather than going what used to be the popular route by bashing him for either his mechanics flaws or his off-the-field antics.
