Saturday was a historic day for the Virginia Cavaliers basketball program. After a long 2013-14 college basketball season, the Cavs walked away with their first outright Atlantic Coast Conference championship in 33 years.
The team knew that it wasn’t going to be easy, and it wasn’t. They were matched up with the Syracuse Orange at one point, who were once 25-0 and number one in the country.
After a tough first half which actually saw the Orange go into the locker room with a one-point lead, Virginia turned it on in the second half and absolutely blew the doors off this game and Syracuse to ultimately walk away with the title.
And the UVA fans, obviously, couldn’t be more ecstatic about this magical season that culminated in some much coveted hardware.
Now it’s time for head coach Tony Bennett and this team to see if they can walk away with the win in the ACC Tournament, and then if all goes perfectly, a national championship.
