By now you have likely heard that the Nevada State Athletic Commission has banned TRT from combat sports, and the UFC followed suit. With such a short amount of time to rid his body of TRT before his UFC Middleweight title bout against Chris Weidman at UFC 173, Vitor Belfort was forced to withdraw from his title shot.
In Vitor’s place steps the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida. Machida has looked fantastic since dropping down to Middleweight with a head kick knockout win over Mark Munoz, and impressive dismantling decision win over Gegard Mousasi. With Jacare Souza undergoing elbow surgery this past weekend, Machida was the easy choice as the replacement for Belfort.
Yesterday, at the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida ran into one another, and posed for a photo prior to their title bout at UFC 173:
Along with the picture was this message from Weidman:
Look who I bumped into at the Arnold Classic. Excited for our fight. #ufc173
Both men were at the Classic to promote their own sponsors. Every year the classic garners huge attention from the MMA community, and it is common for fighters and personalities alike to show up at the convention.
