The Charlotte Bobcats and Ben Gordon had been working on a buyout for quite some time – a buyout (technically a waiving) that finally was completed on Sunday morning.
Unfortunately, that was a few hours past the deadline which would have allowed Gordon to be eligible for postseason play, so now the veteran guard – no matter where he signs – will not be able to play in the playoffs.
Because of that, it’s expected that Gordon will either sit out the remainder of the season or sign with a non-playoff team.
With Ben Gordon waived too late to make playoff roster, he’ll choose between a non-postseason team or sitting out until summer free agency.
There probably won’t be a massive rush to sign Gordon, especially for teams that have no chance at making the postseason as most of those teams have young players they’d rather get minutes.
It’s possible Gordon could potentially sign with a team who will make the playoffs, but that would be a pretty big sting to sit on the bench come the postseason.
