Arizona football adds nationally televised games

The Arizona Wildcats have added two nationally televised weekday games to its 2014 football schedule. Head coach Rich Rodriguez recently made the announcement. The two changes will be for the Wildcats’ first games of the season.

The first game, against the UNLV Running Rebels, will be played on Friday, Aug. 29 instead of Saturday Aug. 30

The second game, originally scheduled for Sat., Sept. 6 against the University of Texas at San Antonio, will now be played on Thurs., Sept. 4, at the Alamodome.

“We’re excited to add two weekday games to our schedule,” Rodriguez said. “Being so early in the college football season, there will be a lot of excitement surrounding these games.”

With these schedule changes, the Wildcats will now play four weekday games in 2014, including a Thursday contest at Oregon on Oct. 2 and the Territorial Cup game versus Arizona State on Fri., Nov. 28.

“I think these are exciting schedule changes for our fans with national audiences able to watch us play,” Arizona Athletics Director Greg Byrne said. “We had a good crowd for the 2013 season opener on a Friday night and we expect a similar result in 2014. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding our football program right now and these games add to that.”
