Brian Orakpo on receiving the franchise tag from Redskins: ‘I’m just letting this play out to the end’
By Jack Crosby
On Monday, the Washington Redskins made the move we all expected to come as they placed the franchise tag on their most important player on the defensive side of the ball, Brian Orakpo.
Just a short time ago, Orakpo addressed the move to ESPN, and while he did express how excited he is to continue playing with his team, he did make it a point to say that this is far from over.
"“I’m excited to continue to play football. I’m glad we’ve made the first step, but hopefully we can still get things done in the long run,” he said. “I don’t have a problem with the decision [the Redskins] made, but I still want a long-term deal. This is new to me. I’m just letting this play out to the end."
What happened today with the franchise tag was crucial for the team, but now the hard part begins. Not only is there the subject of money, but there’s also the issue of what position he should be tagged at, defensive end or linebacker.
