Confirmed: Johan Santana to the Orioles

Jim Duquette was apparently watching the completion of a minor league deal finish up.

It would appear that when Johan Santana was leaving the Orioles’ training camp, he was coming off of agreeing to a minor league deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Roch Kubatko of MASN reported that the deal was just awaiting an ‘official’ announcement from the team.

Britt Ghiroli notes that with where Santana is in rehab and with his velocity being down, the 34-year old would be a veteran presence and a lefty relief option down the road.

The move is just the latest in a rash of late-off-season moves that the Orioles have made. The team has also signed starter Ubaldo Jimenez and outfielder Nelson Cruz after what many perceived to be a very slow and underwhelming Hot Stove season.
