Minnesota Twins deny interest in Joe Saunders

It had been rumored by ESPN Mid Cities that the Minnesota Twins were in serious talks with Joe Saunders about enhancing their rotation.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, however, team officials for the Twins have said there has been no contact or interest in the 32-year old lefty. The Twins current rotation features Phil Hughes, Ricky Nolasco, and Kevin Correia as their top three, with Samuel Deduno, Mike Pelfrey, Vance Worley, and Scott Diamond expected to fill the last two spots.

Saunders has also been linked to the Texas Rangers, who have suffered numerous injuries and setbacks to their pitching staff. He worked out for the team on Friday. Saunders’ numbers have not been traditionally good at Globe Life Park, formerly Rangers’ Ballpark in Arlington. He did, however, earn the win in the 2012 one-game Wild Card playoff against the Rangers in Arlington.
