NBA Rumors: Did Cavaliers, Pacers attempt Luol Deng trade?

In the days (and hours) leading up to the NBA’s trade deadline, discussion broke out suggesting the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers were potentially speaking about a trade.

What type of trade? It was hinted that Luol Deng was a potential piece in such a deal, but the Pacers were not in on acquiring the small forward, this according to Andrew Perna:

The #Pacers were not in on Luol Deng ahead of the trade deadline, according to a source. It had been reported that they talked with #Cavs.

The Cavaliers ended up keeping Deng and the Pacers ended making a move with the Philadelphia 76ers, acquiring Evan Turner in exchange for Danny Granger.

It’s tough to speculate on what the Cavaliers would have been wanting for Deng, though it certainly would have been more than the expiring contract of Granger. Of course, the Pacers weren’t going to part with much for the expiring contract of Deng, so it’s pretty easy to see why the two sides struggled to find a middle ground.

An acquisition of Deng certainly would have shaken up the Eastern Conference, but that’s nothing but water under the bridge now.
