NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers' Steve Nash likely out for season

Has Steve Nash played his final game for the Los Angeles Lakers?

It’s a distinct possibility as head coach Mike D’Antoni does not believe Nash will return this season.

Will Steve Nash return this season? “I doubt it,” D’Antoni said. Wants minutes to go to younger guards, plus Nash still not feeling right.

Nash has battled injury all season – momentarily returning a few weeks ago -but quickly re-injuring himself.

The two-time MVP is signed through next season, however, the Lakers will have the option to release Nash and use the stretch provision to break down his near $10 million dollar salary over the course of three seasons, giving them more cap space.

Because Nash played in a handful of games this season, the former Santa Clara product will not be able to medically retire – a tough blow for the Lakers.

If the Lakers are to cut Nash at season end, he’s previously stated that he will either player for the Los Angeles Clippers or retire.

Hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Nash in an NBA uniform.
